say Walt Disney? 有些人可能会想到一些经典的动画片Some of you might think of classic cartoons 或者一些现代的电影佳作and modern-day movie master pieces 还有些人可能会想到主题公园或是一家大众媒体传播公司Others, a grant theme park or a mass media holding company 当然 还可能有人只会想到这是一个人的名字and others, still… a man 所有这些想法都是正确的All of these are accurate 但是 在华特迪士尼公司这个名字后面到底有什么传奇故事but what’s the story behind the Walt Disney Company 并且迄今这家公司到底有多大呢?and how big are they today? 众所周知 它是由 华特·迪士尼 一位矮小的天才As we all know, it started with a man named Walt Disney 一手创立的a short genius 但是他一生的经历but the details of his life 以及使得他与众不同的地方and the aspects that made him different from others 都没有详细的记载are hazy to most 华特·迪士尼是一位很有野心的创作者Walt Disney was an ambitious innovator 他从不言弃he seemed to never give up 当然 他也有另外的一面He also had another side 那就是 他是个完美主义者he was a perfectionist 他对他自己及同事的要求都十分严苛who was particularly stern to those he worked with 在这个视频中 我们将会全面的了解华特In this video, we’ll learn all about Walt 以及他创立的公司and the company he created 一家从创立至今一直走在时代前沿的公司which is still relevant “a better part of the century” later on 让我们一探究竟吧Let’s begin 序言Prelude 1901年在芝加哥出生Born in Chicago in 1901 华特在当时是家里5个孩子中Walt was a pretty regular kid of the day 普通的一个and one of five children 在小学期间 他表现出了在绘画上过人的天赋During primary school, he expressed an interest in drawing 并且能够通过描摹and would practice sketching 他爸爸报纸封面上的画练习写生by copying the front-page of his dad’s newspaper 一段时间以后 华特的爸爸让他上了绘画课After a while, Walt’s dad got the boy some drawing lessons 随后在高中期间他便开始为学校里的报社画画and he would subsequently draw for his high school paper 但事实上But the thing was 那时并没有人觉得他会是伟大的画家nobody thought of him as a particularly great artist 在17岁的时候At age 17 华特决定向一些杂志社投稿 希望他的画能得到出版Walt decided to send some of his drawings to magazines for publication 但是 遭到了一致拒绝but they were all rejected 接下来的几年里 another job at the Kansas City Film Company 在这里 华特第一次了解到卡通片This is where Walt was first introduced to animated cartoons 他也因此看到了一个更为广阔的新世界His eyes were opened to a new world 而1920年刚好正是无声动画短片The 1920s was when animation really started taking off 开始衰弱的时期in the former silent short comedy sketches 华特看清了局势并产生了灵感Walt saw what was going on around him and took inspiration 他借来了有关动画制作的书籍和一个摄影机He borrowed book on animation and a camera 然后便开始在自家房子后面的小屋里and began to start shooting his own cartoons 制作他自己的动画片in a shed behind his house 在创作期间During his work in the shed 华特偶然发现了一种比他工作的堪萨斯市广告公司Disney came across a superior animation technique to the one 所使用的更先进的动画制作技术that was used at the Kansas Art Company where he worked 他试着劝说他的老板采用这种新的制作方式但没有成功After failing to persuade his boss to use the better 但华特却恰好相反but Walt was passionate 他花光了所有的钱去聘请动画家一起He went out and spent all of his investment money 制作他的名为《爱丽丝在卡通国》的新作on hiring animators for a film called “Alice’s Wonderland” 这部作品是基于《爱丽丝漫游仙境》改编的based on the 1865 novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” 并且也是华特天才的创作代表作之一This project was one of the first instances of Walt’s creative genius — his way 那时 传统的动画片You see, old experimental films of the day 都是以现实场景为背景 再结合会动的手绘人物combined live action backgrounds with an animated character on top 而华特的《爱丽丝在卡通国》却刚好反过来Walt reversed this for Alice’s Wonderland 他把现实中的人物置于卡通的背景里putting the live action character within an animated world 不幸的是 他宏伟的计划还没有完全实施Unfortunately, Walt’s grand plan didn’t catch 在制作的中途公司便破产了and half way through production in 1923, the studio went into bankruptcy 但华特仍旧没有放弃自己的梦想but Disney still knew where his passion lay 他想要成为一名大师He wanted to be an artist 他卖了他的摄影机 去了好莱坞 当时的动漫产业中心He sold his camera, and went to Hollywood, the center of the cartoon industry at that time 华特在成功后也感慨道在年轻的时候经历几次失败也是很重要Walt would later stated that it is important to have a failure when you are young 在好莱坞的时候While in Hollywood 这个满怀期待的年轻小伙子请求过很多动画制作公司订购他的动画the starry-eyed young man asked old big studios to take him on 但他们都说“不”They all said “No” 但华特最终还是幸运的Walt finally got lucky 当他成功地把只制作了一半的《爱丽丝在卡通国》的版权when he managed to sell a half-finished version of “Alice’s Wonderland” 卖给一个纽约电影分销商时to a New York film distributor 他幸运地得到了一份制作两季短片的合同landing a contract for two seasons 为了做好这些短片To make the short episodes of the Alice’s films 华特和他的哥哥Walt teamed up with his brother, Roy 当时正好住在好莱坞的罗伊一起who was 又一次 不幸跌入低谷Disney, once again, was left out in the cold 但他并没有放弃But instead of calling a quit 他决定再创作一个全新的角色he decided that he needed a new character 在和一些亲友归家的火车上On the train home with some of his family members 华特一路苦思冥想he was brainstorming “我觉得它应该是一只老鼠 就叫莫蒂默”“I think it’ll be a mouse, and I’ll call him Mortimer,” he stated 华特的母亲却强烈建议这只老鼠的名字应该叫Walt’s mother strongly recommended that the name of the character “米奇”should be “Mickey” 米老鼠Mickey Mouse 华特竭力的为这个新角色寻找发行商Walt still struggled to find a distributor for this new character 并且他深知他的动漫制作方法需要革新了and he knew that he needed to do something revolutionary here 于是 他便引进了一种全新的He capitalized on a brand new technology 用于电影制作并没有多久的新技术——that had just be in cooperated into the film industry — 声音Sound 华特明白 要想成功 他必须做到最好Walt knew that he had to do a “人要同步配音”“we had the people with voices” “背景的管弦乐也要同步演奏”“we had the orchestra going, and everybody had to synchronized” 回到1928年那个年代 这简直就是有革命性意义的动画片Back in 1928, this was revolutionary 人们那时还并不能理解People wouldn’t have been able to comprehend 一个动画人物吹口哨 唱歌that an animated character could whistle, sing 竟有相对应的声音同步播放and have corresponding sounds on film 迪士尼便是这个有声动漫行列的先行者Disney had just pioneered fully synchronized sound for cartoons 很多人把这看成迪士尼成名的起点Many held this as the start of the Disney we know today [米奇吹口哨声][Mickey’s whistling] 其实在迪士尼之前 观众看过有声的动画片Audiences had seen cartoons with sound before 但却没有看过如此同步 如此天衣无缝的有声动画片but never synchronized, yet not as perfectly as this 他们都爱上了这样的动漫They were blown away 有声的米奇也因此红遍全球Mickey and synchronized sound had made world famous 在这次革新之后After this revolutionary innovation 迪士尼并没有停止向动画制作添加新元素的探索Disney can’t push in the boundaries of animation 到了1934年And when 1934 came around 他和他的团队一起着手制作制片以来最为艰巨的新片he and his team got to work on the biggest animation project ever undertaken 全世界第一部全彩的动画片 斥资150万美元The fisrt full-color, feature-animated film, costing $1.5 million 名为“白雪公主”It was called “Snow White” 继“白雪公主”之后 佳作一部接着一部After “Snow White”, came   • 2021-08-24超回路列车冷流科技[Music playing] 大家好 欢迎再次收看ColdFusion视频栏目Hi, welcome to another ColdFusion video. 本期节目介绍的是 超回路列车In this video, we’ll take a look at the Hyperloop: 这是种全新的运输方式The brand new method of transport 由企业家及百万富翁埃隆·马斯克提出brought forth by the entreperneur and billionaire Elon Musk. 咱们闲话少说So let’s get straight into it. 首先 它到底是什么?First of all, what is it? 大体上来说 这是第五种运输方式Well, in broad terms, it’s the fifth mode of transport. 截至目前 我们使用过So far, throughout history, we’ve been using 火车…trains… 汽车…cars… 飞机…planes… 船只…boats… 技术上来说 还有火箭and technically rockets. 但我从没坐过 而你也不大可能坐过But I haven’t been in one and you probably haven’t neither. 所以可以忽略不计So that doesn’t really count. 超回路列车将成为第五种运输方式The Hyperloop is going to be the fifth form of transport. 且听我细细道来So going to some more spcific details, 超回路列车是一种高速运输系统the Hyperloop is a high speed transport system 乘客坐在密封的胶囊状列车里in which passengers sit in a pressurised capsule 列车由空气垫托起that rise on a cushion of air. 胶囊列车在密封的 接近真空的环境中运行The capsule operates in a sealed near-vaccum environment. 推进系统将从几个方案中选出The propulsion system is still to be chosen from a number of options. 其中两项是磁悬浮和空气压力2 of which are magnetic levitation or air pressure 后者与空气球台原理类似similar to that of an air hocky table. 采访者:“设计蓝图太复杂了”Interviewer: “The blue prints are pretty complicated.” 埃隆·马斯克:“嗯 蓝图总是有点复杂Elon Musk: ” Well, blue prints are always kind of complicated 我的意思是 对 有数学公式什么的and I mean, yes there is math 哈哈 可真没那么难的”haha, but it’s really not that hard.” 采访者:“听起来还是很复杂啊 埃隆”Interviewer: ” It still sounds pretty complicated, Elon.” 埃隆:“就像是在空气球桌里放个管子Elon: ” It’s like a tube within an air hocky table. 管子里压力较低…it’s just a low presure tube… 里面放进胶囊列车…with a pod in it… 其下部是空气轴承和空气滑板…that runs on air bearings and air skis… 使用…嗯…前部的空气压缩机推进with… um… an air compressor on the front. 空气压缩机吸入列车前部高压空气that’s taking the high pressure air above upon the nose… 然后通过空气滑板排出and pumping it through the air skis. 那真的…That’s really… 我指天发誓 没那么难I swear it’s not that hard. 呵呵…”haha…” 预计该系统平均行进速度The system is proposed to travel at an average speed 为900千米/时 最高达到1220千米/时at 900 km/h and at the top speed of 1220km/h. 埃隆真的没时间做这个Elon really doesn’t have that much time to do this one. 他在忙着造火箭 电动车和供居家使用的电池He’s too busy building rockets, electric cars and betteries to power homes. 所以 他公开了这个点子 然后以竞争的方式So he’s given away this idea and outsourced it 进行外包in the form of competetion. 为争夺该项目 已经成立了几个公司Several companies have formed to take on the project 老式团队 跨学科团队和学生主导团队甚至and even some old style, interdisciplinary, student-led teams 一起合作来推进超回路技术发展are working together to advance the Hyperloop technology. 这些放在后面讲But more on this later. 那么 埃隆·马斯克为什么想做这些?So why does Elon Musk want to do all this? 意义何在?What’s the point? 埃隆:“其实 我想通过超回路列车达到的是Elon: “What I really intend to do with the hyperloop 激发人们对新型运输方式的兴趣was really to spur interest in new forms of transportation. 嗯…我认为 我开始认为Um… and I think, I’m starting to think 这事能成this is really gonna happen. 所以…是的…”So… yeah…” (掌声与欢呼声)[Claps and cheers] “我的意思是 公众和全世界都想要新事物 这再清楚不过“I mean, it’s clear that the public and the world want something new 我觉得在坐的诸位就能办到and I think you guys are gonna bring it to them. 那么 恭喜了!”So, congratulations!” 好了 那他是怎么想到这个主意的?OK, so how does the idea come about? 时间回到2012年Well, back in 2012 埃隆在美国加州圣莫妮卡参加科技博客《潘多日报》的活动Elon was at a PandoDaily event in Santa Monica, California. 在那 他向世界宣布了自己正在考虑There, he announced to the world that he was thinking of 推出第五种运输方式的想法a fifth mode of transport. 下面是现场视频This is that moment. 埃隆:“我想 也许我可以先申请专利 然后Elon: “I think maybe I should patent it and then 将专利开源 提供给任何offer to open source the patent to anyone that can 有实力 能干成的人be credible case that they could actually do it. 嗯… 我们还在讨论Um… since we’re debating it. 但这将是第五种运输方式But it would be for a fifth mode of transports. 我还给它起了名字 叫超回路列车”I have a name for it. was stuck in airline traffic 那次堵车使他参会迟到了一小时which caused him to be one hour late for a meeting. 这些都很有趣So that’s still well and good 但是 咱们看看该系统的优点 以及其可能存在的问题but let’s be aware of some advantages and possible problems with the system. 首先 优点First, the advantages. 理论上 胶囊列车不会坠毁Theoratically, the pods can’t crash. 建造成本也要低很多It’s also much cheaper to build 造价仅相当于计划中加州高铁的十分之一it’s about 1/10 the cost of the proposed California high speed railway system. 也就是说 票价可能只要25美元This means that tickets could cost as little as 25 dollars. 速度也快很多It’s also a lot faster. 基本上 从洛杉矶市中心到旧金山市中心只要30分钟You can basically get from downtown LA to downtown San Francisco in 30 minutes. 从阿姆斯特丹到巴黎也就这么长时间and it would take about the same time to get from Amsterdam to Paris. 小贴士 如果距离比这远些的话Just as a side note, for distances longer than that 其实使用超音速客机会更划算it’s actually more economically viable to use a supersonic jet. 由于使用了太阳能 超回路列车节能性能超强It’s also extremely energy-efficient due to solar power utilization. 事实上 作为封闭的系统 超回路列车能够产生的电能In fact, the hyperloop could generate more power 比消耗的电能要多than it consumes as a closed system. 埃隆:“…因为在这个系统里 你产生的能源要多于消耗的Elon: ” …Because you generate more power than you consume in the actually acts as a power generator. 好的 下面咱们看看可能出现的问题Ok, so let’s move on to some possible problems. 以下是对超回路列车提出的一些质疑Here’s some thoughts from the critics of hyperloop. 有人认为 乘坐超回路列车的体验会十分惊悚They say that the experience could be frighting 因为乘客们将被置于一个促狭 封闭无窗的胶囊中because passengers would be in a narrow, sealed, windowless capsule 胶囊又处于封闭的隧道里inside a sealed tunnel. 而且 极快的加速和嘈杂的振动 可能导致Also, the fast acceleration and noisy vaberation could cause 晕动病motion sickness. 还有关于装备保障方面的问题 尤其是如何处理There are also legistical questions regarding how to best deal with 设备故障 安全事故和紧急撤离等等equipment mulfunctions, accidents and emergency evacuations. 最后 成本可能高于预期Finally, the cost maybe high than anticipated. 埃隆曾说过 他意识到了这些挑战Elon has stated that he reallizes these challenges 但他相信那些着手处理问题的人 对他们的技术和创新抱有信心but has strong faith in the skills and innovation of those working on the problem. 除此以外 未来在设计上可能也要改进In addition to this, designs could also change in the future for the better. 好的 为了好玩Ok, so just for fun 咱们用拓展的眼光 审视超回路列车的概念let’s take a wide perspective on the concept of the hyperloop. 你可能会很惊讶 类似的想法You maybe surprised to reallize that such an idea is 其实200多年前就有了over 200 years old. 1812年 英国机械工程师 发明家乔治·梅德赫斯特In 1812, British mechanical engineer and inventor George Medhurst 写了一本书 书中详细阐述了他关于在密封管道内 通过空气推进wrote a book detailing his idea of transporting passengers and 运送人员和货物的想法goods through air-tight tubes using air propulsion. 第一个成功投入使用的超回路列车类系统The frist real working application of hyperloop-style transport system 是水晶宫气动铁路was the Crystal Palace pneumatic railway. 1864年 该系统在伦敦三座隧道中运行This operated 3 tunnels in London in 1864 and 由蒸汽机驱动的大型风扇提供动力use large fans that were powered by a steam engine. 关闭之前 该线路事实上成功运行了一年之久The line actually operated successfully for a year before it was close 已经与包括中国在内的十国政府进行了洽谈 以在其国内主要主要城市have been talking to 10 governments including China to build hyperloops 搭建超回路列车in their major cities. 还有一些独立公司也进行了模拟和测试There’ve also been other simulations and test done by independent companies. 目的是更好地了解超回路列车的概念Just to see how the concept would be. 比如 有公司使用MATLAB软件和Simlink设计模块集成进行测试For example, MATLAB run a test with Simlink to see 以检验超回路列车在设计中的加州线路表现如何how the hyperloop would perform on the proposed California route. 在此模拟测试中 上方显示的是速度In the simulation, we have speed at the top 乘客舒适度由重力数值测量passenger comfort measured in G force 高度数值在底部and elevation at the bottem. 我们需要关注的是乘客舒适度这一指数Passenger comfort is what we need to keep an eye on here. 说明一下 重力大体上是Just for clarification, G force is basically the measure of 由于运动中方向改变 导致对身体产生拉力的感觉pull on a body due to a change in direction when in motion. 以下仅供参考: 一辆轿车以50千米/时的速度For reference, a car turning a wide corner 通过23米长有弧度的转角with radians of 23 meters at about 50km/h 大概产生0.8个重力pulls about 0.8 Gs. 如你所见As you can see 超回路列车模拟中的乘客舒适度the passenger comfort in the simulation of the hyperloop 基本保持在0.5个重力的范围内stays mostly within the 0.5 region 这是空气垫起到的缓冲作用due to some natural dampening by the air cushion. 所以 这个体验可能很舒服So it actually seems like this idea could be pretty comfortable. 没准跟坐车感觉差不多Maybe no less comfortable than a car in fact. 这当然是从数学上和理论上来说的Mathematically and theoretically speaking anyway, of course. 好了 本期节目接近尾声Alright, so almost at the end of the video. 但还有一点But just one last bit. 咱们再看看超回路列车胶囊车厢竞赛Let’s take a look at the Hyperloop pod competition. 咱们神侃这档 不少学生和非学生团队A number of student and none-student teams are 正在参加超回路列车胶囊车厢竞赛paticipating in a Hyperloop pod competition right now as we speak. 2015年6月Back in June, 2015 美国太空探索技术公司宣布 将资助超回路列车胶囊车厢设计竞赛SpaceX announced that they would sponser a Hyperloop pod design competition. 一个月后Just one month later 超过700个团队提交了申请more than 700 teams have submited applications. 2016年1月In January of 2016 超过120个学生工程师团队被挑选出来 提交最终的设计方案more than 120 student egineering teams were selected to submite final design pacages. 2016年中旬In mid 2016 其中至少22支队伍将在加州的测试轨道上at least 22 of them will build hardware to compete 建造硬件设施 以参加竞赛on a test track in California. 我真的认为 这是年轻工程师I really think this is an amasing opportunity for young engineers 发明家和设计师的绝佳机会 他们可以开动脑筋inventors and designers to really get their minds working 以己之力 改变历史on something that could change history. 真是激动人心It’s encouraging to see. 看起来 超回路列车这种概念The Hyperloop seems to be a concept that could 可能为中距旅行带来革命性变化revolutionize medium distance travel. 但更重要的是 把点子 设计及人才But further more, the actual concept of outsourcing 进行外包和公开流动的概念and openly floating ideas, designs and talents 是基础设施领域内is an amazing new way to innovate and do business 的一种颠覆性的创新和商业模式within the infrastructure sector.
